Bunkhouses can offer a good value alternative to camping when the weather is less predictable and particularly for the more adventurous hill walkers and mountaineers who like to get out in the winter months. We have used a variety of them over the years scattered over the country and ranging from primitive to the luxurious. A selection of accommodation is provided below.

Description

The Star Bunkhouse, Bwlch,   Brecon Beacons

A good bunkhouse with great facilities for groups at a reasonable price and a great location in the Brecons. Understandably we have been back there a couple of times. It has six bedrooms (so you can isolate those snorers!) and a large kitchen and washing facilities with 6 shower cubicles. The New Inn is just across the road and does a good selection of food.

The National Mountain Centre based in North Wales provides bunkhouse style accommodation and a range of facilities like a canteen. There are also three self-catering cottages on this site for larger groups.

St Curigs Church

St Curigs is a stunning church conversion in Caple Curig just opposite Joe Browns and down the road from PYB it is a very up market bed and breakfast. Some of the bedrooms have four posters and all the mod   cons of a nice hotel with an excellent breakfast, good vegetarian options and free use of the pool table and outdoor hot tub - great for those aching legs after a long days walk. The hospitality is very homely and thoroughly recommend a stay if you want to treat yourself. It is quite reasonably priced for what it offers.

Planning a trip? Well you will undoubtedly want to check up on directions to where you plan to go and what the weather is going to be like. Below is a selection of useful links:
